This Kettering Hotels Royal History
Queen Victoria
The Hotels Victoria Restaurant was given the name of Victoria’s after it was made famous following a stay in Room 12 from Queen Victoria herself, accompanied by the Prince Consort in 1844.
This was when The Royal Hotel (previously known as The White Hart Hotel) was a thriving Coaching Inn not only offering 40 guest bedrooms but also able to accommodate 40 horses in the stables at the rear of the building, which we now use as a car park.
Charles Dickens
Charles Dickens also stayed here, arriving on the first week of polling and staying throughout the election, it is said that he took to dining in his room to avoid the chaos of the town.
It is also thought that his visit to Kettering and the Hotel gave him inspiration for some new material and as legend would have it, it is believed that he actually started to write “Pickwick Papers” during his stay.
